C.C. Sabathia Knee Injury To Sideline Him At Least Six Weeks

New York Yankees standout pitcher C.C. Sabathia is expected to miss the next six weeks and possibly longer due to knee inflammation.

Sabathia was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 11, a day after pitching five innings in a 5-4 road loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Initially it was unclear how much time Sabathia was going to be out of the lineup. However, Sabathia plans on having a stem cell injection in his knee on Thursday. This could keep him out of the rotation at least until early July.

Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman stated, “They don’t have any real certain time,” alluding to the unknown timeline for Sabathia’s return.

Sabathia has struggled thus far this season with a 3-5 record and 5.28 ERA and has allowed 10 home runs. He is currently in the third year of a 5-year, $122 million contract with a vest option in 2017.

The Yankees have a pretty solid pitching rotation with Masahiro Tanaka, Hiroki Kuroda, David Phelps, Vidal Nuno and Chase Whitley. This rotation is going to have to hold the fort down in Sabathia’s month long absence.

Tanaka looks to keep his undefeated streak alive as the starting pitcher tonight for the Yankees’ Interleague matchup against the Chicago Cubs.
