Carmelo’s Indecision

| July 8, 2014 | 0 Comments

It has now been two weeks since Carmelo Anthony opted out of his contract with the New York Knicks yet still no decision has been made on where he will be taking his talents to during the long offseason.

However, everyone should know that the free agency process is one that takes much weighing and consideration before players and agents sign that dotted line to become a new member of an organization. Melo is another example of a marquee free agent that is weighing all options he has at his disposal before making a decision.

The three teams in the Melo sweepstakes are the Lakers, Bulls, and the Knicks, who are trying to keep Melo in the Big Apple. However, Melo wants to go to the team where he will have the best opportunity to thrive and become the superstar and ultimately win a championship. He would like to win that elusive title and join his fellow 2003 NBA draftees LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade as players with multiple rings.

Melo graced the front cover of the NY Daily News that was headlined “The Indecision”. This cover alludes to the fact that Melo has a tough decision to make whether to stay in New York or take a pay cut and play in Los Angeles or Chicago.

Regardless of which team Melo decides to roll with he will still be in a big market city.

Chicago, on paper, looks to be the most appealing option for Carmelo. They have a solid bench that consists of Mike Dunleavy Jr., Taj Gibson, Ronnie Brewer, Tony Snell, and their 2014 first round pick Doug McDermott. Plus Carmelo could bring more scoring to Chicago’s starting five and depending on whether Derrick Rose could stay healthy this season would determine the magnitude of success Chicago has this upcoming season.

After all, Carmelo’s agent Leon Rose has ties with Chicago’s head coach Tom Thibodeau, whom Rose has been friends with for a few years.

Again, Melo’s decision will be contingent on how vast his supporting cast is and it looks like out of the three teams in the mix Chicago perhaps has the best chance of landing Melo.
