Grammy and Oscar Academy Award nominee, Common, dropped by The Angie Martinez Show to talk about his Grammy nomination with John Legend, his album, and how the movie “Selma” relates to what is happening in our world today.
Common and the rest of the “Selma” family including Oprah Winfrey, David Oyelowo, and director Ava DuVernay were doing press for the movie in New York during the ongoing protest that were happening in the city.
“Once situations happened with Mike Brown and Eric Garner…it was like, this movie, this story, what’s happening in this time is exactly what we’re seeing,” said Common. “I’ve never been a part of a film or even a piece of art where it’s a true reflection of what’s going on.”
Common and Angie Martinez also talked about lighter subjects like what is Common wearing to the Academy Award’s and his current relationship status.
