Just when you thought the star-studded cast of Suicide Squad could not get any bigger! Common has been cast in an unidentified role for the film. While the movie is set to begin production fairly soon, it may be safe to say the role will not be one of much screen time. That does not mean Common is going to be playing some average Joe however. Suicide Squad is the first follow-up film to next year’s Batman v Superman:Dawn of Jusitce. In which DC comics is looking to build a shared universe where all their movies are connected, like what their rivals at Marvel have been doing for almost a decade.

This is important because all these films lead to a Justice League movie. Common was in talks to play the pivotal member Green Lantern years ago. This also could just be a case of director David Ayer wanting to work with Common again as they collaborated in the 2008 film Street Kings. While the Green Lantern casting seems unlikely now, it is still a possibility as a name like Common will probably not be wasted on a throwaway character. Common is doing his thing on the big screen as he already starred in the inspirational hit movie Selma and will be in Spike Lee’s Chiraq.

Suicide Squad already stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Cara Delevigne as Enchantress, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. The film is set for theatrical release August 5th, 2016.
