Dr. Dre has been a popular figure in the industry for over two decades. From his work with N.W.A. to Snoop Dogg to Eminem to 50 Cent, he has always been relevant to hip hop. Which makes his ability to be very private interesting creating this mystique about him. He does not talk much, but in an interview with Rolling Stone, Dre opens up about the biggest public scar in his life.

He speaks on the allegations of abuse against singer Michel’e, who has a child by Dr. Dre, and the infamous Dee Barnes altercation. Michel’e has claimed Dre beat her and shot at her during their relationship. Dee Barnes was TV personality and Fox ran an episode of the show Pump It Up! , that she hosted, which featured N.W.A. and Ice Cube on the same episode after Cube left the group. Dr. Dre confronted her and allegedly bashed her head against a bathroom wall at an Los Angles event in 1991.

I made some fucking horrible mistakes in my life…I was young, fucking stupid. I would say all the allegations aren’t true. Some of them are. Those are some of the things that I would like to take back. It was really fucked up. But I paid for those mistakes, and there’s no way in hell that I will ever make another mistake like that again.”

In the same interview Ice Cube discusses the lyrics of N.W.A. which many found to be devaluing women. Something that Ice Cube denounces in the interview.

If you’re a bitch, you’re probably not going to like us…If you’re a ho, you probably don’t like us. If you’re not a ho or a bitch, don’t be jumping to the defense of these despicable females. Just like I shouldn’t be jumping to the defense of no punks or no cowards or no slimy son of a bitches that’s men. I never understood why an upstanding lady would even think we’re talking about her

The issue hits newsstands on August 17th and the film Straight Outta Compton hits theaters August 14th.
