Exclusive: Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms Talks #BlackPanther and Its Economical Benefits

Atlanta Magic at its finest, when the city of Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms accompanied by three of her children came out to the Black Panther movie premiere Tuesday night (Feb.13). Atlanta’s 60th Mayor was able to 
answer a few questions about the film and its economic benefits.

The highly-anticipated motion picture directed by Ryan Coogler has a full African-American cast, which includes stars Chadwick Boseman as “Black Panther”, alongside Micheal B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, and Forest Whitaker to name a few. According to news sources, Black Panther is expected to gross an estimated $150 million its first weekend after the release Friday (Feb.16).

In the red carpet interview Mrs. Bottoms told us why she is excited about the film, “I’m excited about the energy surrounding the film… black people being celebrated on such a big screen has a huge impact.” The mayor was thrilled to have the city come out to celebrate such a big film,” Having Atlanta highlight the film in such a tremendous way really speaks to how inviting we are as a city”.

The Atlanta Mayor also shares why she believes the movie will have a positive economic impact on the city of Atlanta, Bottoms shares ” We recently announced a creative fund, we won’t just be a place where movies are made, but a place where movies are conceptualized… When a major motion picture is done here it attracts more business… and really has a cascading effect”.
