Tyler Perry and “For Colored Girls” & Actress Kimberly Elise
wins a NAACP Award

Friday, March 4th, the 42nd Annual NAACP Image Awards was held in Los Angeles, CA—at the Shrine Auditorium. Red carpet arrivals presented some of the most prestigious men and woman within the entertainment industry. The star-studded guest list provided for a variety of big name celebrities that included Tyler Perry, Prince, Halle Berry, Samuel L. Jackson, LL Cool J, Willow Smith and many more.

Tyler Perry was the highlight of the evening winning in both the movie and television award categorys. One of his most successful works “For Colored Girls” was a true work of art; he took home a staggering three awards—Outstanding Comedy Series “House of Payne,” ‘Best Supporting Actress’ Kimberly Elise, and Outstanding Motion Film. Tyler Perry’s other series “Meet the Browns” actor David Man won for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series.

A world-wide phenomenon amongst girls of various ages “Whip my Hair” singer Willow Smith took home an Award for New Artist at the NAACP Image Awards, which is very amazing considering the fact that she, up until recently with the release of “21st Century Girl,” only has one single  out “Whip My Hair.” Willow Smith beat out artist such as, Nicki Minaj, B.o.B, Bruno Mars and Jason Derulo taking the award right from under them.

It has been a huge year for Willow Smith, first signing with Jay Z’s record label, then placing on Billboard Charts internationally and winning a performance award at the Young Artist Awards. What a profound and dignified way to break into the music industry! Unforunately, she was not able to attend Award show. Willow Smith opened up for a Justin Bieber concert in Birmingham, England.

Other winners include Outstanding Actor Denzel Washington, who was not able to make award show, for his role in “Book of Eli,” Outstanding Actress Halle Barry for her role in “Frankie and Alice” and last, but not least, Samuel Jackson winning Outstanding Supporting Actor for his role in “Mother and Child.”
