HHE’s Summer Movie Preview!! PT 2

| July 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Here is Part 2 To my previous summer movie round up. The third and final edition will be coming soon!

Captain America: The First Avenger will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving.)

The estimated budget for Captain America was $140 million dollars. Hopefully they can make back most of that with box office sales. The movie overall looks entertaining. However, like most comic book remakes, you have to wonder if the director will get it. Hopefully it won’t turn into another Green Lantern. Captain America hits theaters July 22nd 2011

Dylan (Justin Timberlake) and Jamie (Mila Kunis) think it’s going to be easy to add the simple act of sex to their friendship, despite what Hollywood romantic comedies would have them believe. They soon discover however that getting physical really does always lead to complications.

My biggest problem with this movie is that it looks EXACTLY like No Strings Attached with Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman. While I am big fan of Mila Kunis (Black Swan, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) I think that she will fall into a type-casted role of being the “quirky, fun” girl. Black Swan was a huge step up for her career, this seems to be taking a her a few notches down. Despite my fears however, I am hoping that it won’t be the same predictable drivel as most romantic comedies are.  Friends with Benefits premiers on July 22nd 2011 at a theater near you.

1875 New Mexico Territory. A stranger (Daniel Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford). It’s a town that lives in fear. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force.

This movie has the chance to be a fun, entertaining thrill ride. It stars Daniel Craig who has basically mastered the role of action star and Harrison Ford who is no stranger to the fast paced, adrenaline fueled action sequences. The finishing touch is the Jon Favreau directing, a well renowned actor/director, most famous for directing Iron Man. Despite its cheesy name, Cowboys & Aliens should be a pleasant surprise. It hits theaters July 29th 2011.

Just after the death of her newly-born sister, Chanda, 12 years old, learns of a rumor that spreads like wildfire through her small, dust-ridden village near Johannesburg. It destroys her family and forces her mother to flee. Sensing that the gossip stems from prejudice and superstition, Chanda leaves home and school in search of her mother and the truth. Life, Above All is an emotional and universal drama about a young girl (stunningly performed by first-time-actress Khomotso Manyaka) who fights the fear and shame that have poisoned her community. The film captures the enduring strength of loyalty and a courage powered by the heart. Directed by South African filmmaker Oliver Schmitz, it is based on the international award winning novel Chanda’s Secrets by Allan Stratton.

With 96% rating on Rotten Tomotes, this movie is promising to be to touching, inspiring and very emotional. A poignant story that reflects the true bond between a mother and daughter. Life, Above All is in theaters July 15th 2011 (Limited)
