Disaster Strikes at Indiana State Fair
What started out as a night of fun, turned into a scene straight out of the Final Destination series. A crowd of about 12,000 people gathered at the Indiana State Fair to enjoy food, drinks and live performances. As the crowd waited for Sugarland to take the stage, the sky suddenly became dark and winds racing at 70 mph wipped though the area. Read more below:
The stage, holding thousands of pounds of steel scaffolding, wooden beams, lighting and other equippment collapsed. Five people were killed and many were injured. The Indiana State Police are saying the number of injured people may rise because some people were transported privately instead of by the resuce workers on the scene.
A severe weather alert was issued a few times before the collapse but concert organizers said they hoped the show would go on thus many people decided to stay.
Ultimately the fair reopened and a tribute was given to those who were killed in this tragic episode.
