Gordon’s Future With The Browns Up In The Air

| May 14, 2014 | 0 Comments

The Cleveland Brown’s organization is trying to figure out whether they should do away with their stud receiver Josh Gordon. Gordon, who had a breakout season last year by leading the league in receiving yards, is facing a season-long suspension after failing another drug test.

Oddly enough, Gordon’s failed drug test news was released to the media less than 24 hours after the Browns drafted Johnny Manziel late in the first round. The excitement of the Manziel pick for Browns fans was short lived. Especially considering that the Browns traded down to the ninth spot in the first round to draft cornerback Justin Gilbert from Oklahoma State and Buffalo drafted Clemson receiver Sammy Watkins.

The biggest question now is will Manziel ever have an opportunity to complete a pass to Gordon? This latest Gordon news is a stunning blow to a franchise trying to immerse themselves into postseason contention.

Not only did Cleveland get a new head coach in the offseason in Mike Pettine, but Ray Farmer was also hired as the team’s new general manager. In his first year as Browns GM, Ray Farmer is faced with a personnel decision as it relates to Gordon. If in fact Gordon does receive a lengthy suspension he could possibly be placed on the trading block. Despite Gordon’s off the field issues he would be a hot commodity for several teams across the NFL. He finished last season with a league high 1,646 receiving yards an nine touchdowns.

This is not the first time Gordon has violated the league’s drug policy. He was suspended for the first two games last season for the same offense.
