During a performance at the Big Chill music festival, Kanye West went into a unexpected rant about how he is misunderstood and underappreciated. ” I walk through the hotel and I walk down the street, and people look at me like I’m @@@!!! insane, like I’m Hitler.” he said “One day the light will shine through and one day people will understand everything I ever did”
The crowd responded with a couple light boos, West also defended his music video for his song Monster, which features cannibalism and girls hanging by their necks. ” Who saw the video before it was banned, before they took it down and before the women’s groups starting saying that a person who lost the most important woman in their life is now against women in some way?” he asked the crowd. He ended his rant talking about how some of his award show drama and how some of his sponsorships were canceled.
West is known for speaking his mind whenever he feels it’s necessary this is just one more to add to his list, along with a diss to Taylor Swift during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, and saying “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” during a telethon for Hurricane Katrina.
The performance ended with a tribute to Amy Winehouse, which fans highly appreciated. West played snippets of Tears Dry On Their Own and Back to Black. He recalled meeting the late singer at a fashion show in Paris a few years back, he said it was “beautiful” to meet her and she was “amazing.”
