A few nights ago (May 17), Keri Hilson performed Whitney Houston’s hit song “I Have Nothing” at the BMI Pop Awards. The show featured some of the most prominent songwriters today, including David Foster, 2011 BMI honoree.

Renowned songwrite/producer David Foster has written songs for some of the greats, including Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Madonna. Foster has a few decades under his belt and continues to stay relevant and in tune with this new generation of music. “It’s f—ing awesome,” Foster told the BoomBox of receiving the honor. “When I go to the doctor’s office, after 40 years of being in the business, when they say ‘occupation’ I put ‘musician.’ I don’t ever put record producer, or entrepreneur, I put musician or songwriter, so I think of myself as a songwriter.”
