Lecrae Becomes First Hip-Hop Artist To Win “Best Gospel Album” Grammy
Reach Records recording artist Lecrae is having a great start to 2013 as he has made history as the first Hip-Hop artist to win a Grammy award in the “Best Gospel Album” category for his sixth studio album Gravity.
Released in September 2012, Gravity debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 and #1 on the Rap Charts with over 73K units sold. The album featured key production from Grammy award winning producers DJ Khalil and Heat Academy.
“This past year has been an amazing experience and to see that my music is opening doors for the hip-hop culture is incredible. All I want to do is make great honest music for all my fans to enjoy,” states Lecrae. “I want to build opportunities for other artists like myself as well as show that there is always a place for being unashamed and authentic.”
Named the NFL Players choice performer during Super Bowl XLVII Weekend in New Orleans, Lecrae is known for his positive lyrical messages over hard and griddy Hip-Hop beats, which appeals to a generation of fans that find his music not only enlightening but also entertaining.
In May 2012 Lecrae released his first mixtape Church Clothes, which featured one Hip-Hop’s revered artists No Malice (formerly Malice of The Clipse) and production by Grammy award winning producers Boi-1da, 9th Wonder and Heat Academy. The mixtape was a precursor to Lecrae’s growth in the Hip-Hop genre, which culminated with the release of the now Grammy award winning album Gravity.
Lecrae fans will be able to catch him in Houston for All-Star Weekend, on the Higher Learning College Tour and in Austin at SXSW.
