Jay Z responds to Meek Mill’s 2 to 4 Year Prison Sentence

| November 7, 2017 | 0 Comments

Meek Mill received a sentence of two to four years in prison for violating his probation.

Meek Mill, was arrested in March following a fight at a St. Louis airport, although those charges were dropped. Meek Mill also pleaded guilty to reckless driving in October after he posted videos of himself doing wheelies on a dirt bike in New York City.

Common Pleas Court Judge Genece E. Brinkley, who has previously overseen matters relating to Meek Mill’s probation, deemed both arrests a violation of the rapper’s probation before sentencing him to two to four years in a state prison, Philly.com reports.

Brinkley, who previously sentenced to Meek Mill to 90 days of house arrest following a February 2016 probation violation, accused Meek Mill of “just thumbing your nose at me” with his repeated violations.

Following news of Meek Mill‘s prison sentence, many in the entertainment industry voiced their support for the rapper.

Jay Z voiced his thoughts on the matter. He  released a statement on Facebook shortly after news of the prison sentence was made known.

“The sentence handed down by the Judge — against the recommendation of the Assistant District Attorney and Probation Officer — is unjust and heavy-handed,” JAY-Z said. “We will always stand by and support Meek Mill, both as he attempts to right this wrongful sentence and then in returning to his musical career.”

Mike Epps posted this video on Instagram encouraging Meek Mill on how to serve his time.

Meek Mill’s sentence was  unexpected  especially since the prosecutors recommened no imprisonment.

The United States Criminal Justice system continues to support the harsh rulings from judges who continue to statistically sentence black and brown people with long jail sentences for non violent crimes.

Meek Mill’s legal team will be filing for an appeal. But until then it looks like Meek will be away from us for a while.
