NOKIA MUSIC PROJECT

If you missed the premiere of the Nokia Music Project’s, “New American Noise” documentary last night  (January 18) on the Sundance Channel, then don’t worry because we’ve got you covered. The documentary captured the everyday life and youth culture that fuels some of the dopest music coming out of  6 different cities including Atlanta, New Orleans and NYC. The indie film had a slew of highly-respected hip hop artists representing each city, such as the Two-9 collective and Trinidad James in Atlanta, Mannie Fresh in New Orleans and Angel Haze in NYC.

Auto-tune king, T-Pain made an appearance in the Atlanta segment where he supported the recent success of Atlanta rapper, Trinidad James. “You got everybody right now trying to copy the Atlanta sound. It’s overwhelming really… Atlanta sound, it’s just a certain BPM. Everybody is doing Rick Ross rhythms on their raps. It’s just too much. Music is terrible right now, I just want something different to happen“, said T-Pain. The Atlanta segment also featured music collective, Two 9, their hustle and a bunch of joints from their summer 2012 mixtape release, Forever.

The NYC segment featured artists such as female emcee, Angel Haze, who’s recently been beefing with fellow rapper, Azealia Banks. When speaking on the content of her music she said, “People relate to me because I’ve gone through similar stuff. It’s all about really being who you are, staying true to where you come from, staying true to who you are“.

Legendary producer, Mannie Fresh appeared in the segments on New Orleans Bounce music which gave us a glimpse into the city behind the music. “Bounce is just music in New orleans. It merges them.  It just brings people together. Regardless of color, genre, whatever is going on with you, bounce is that one thing that if you got a problem, you don’t need to be here because we’re all gonna be under this one roof and get down”.
