| June 24, 2011 | 0 Comments

Born in Kansas City, Kansas, Janelle Monae dreamed of becoming a performer from an early age. She studied musical theater in New York before moving to Atlanta to focus on recording. After meeting Big Boy of Outkast, she formed a creative collective called The Wondaland Arts Society and signed with Sean “Diddy” Combs. The Grammy-nominated neo-funk diva is famous for her distinctive hairstyles, her futuristic artistic concepts, and for infectious, danceable jams like “Tightrope”.

Leave it to Janelle Monae to help re-popularize such a regal style. Today’s naturalist have taken Janelle’s signature pompadour and stepped it up a notch, playing with various textures and different shaped buns. You’ll need long bobby pins and pomade to smooth edges.
