Singer Bobby Brown Avoids Jail Sentence in DUI Case Gets Probation Instead

A Los Angeles Superior court judge exercised her preogative today when allowing singer Bobby Brown to undergo a alcohol treatment program instead of throwing him in jail for the highly publicised DUI case that happened weeks after the death of singer Whitney Houston.

The charge to which he pleaded no contest is a violation of the California vehicle code, the attorney said.

In Los Angeles County Superior Court, prosecutors dismissed two other counts against him — a drunk driving charge and a suspended driver’s license charge — said Brown lawyer Tiffany Feder.

Brown was also sentenced to one day in jail — which he already served — and must undergo a 90-day alcohol treatment program, Feder said.

Brown didn’t appear in court, Feder said.

Brown, 43, showed signs of intoxication and failed a field sobriety test during the traffic stop last month in the Reseda area of Los Angeles County, California, Highway Patrol spokeswoman Tiana Reed said. Hopefully Brown doesn’t find himself in any more trouble especially since his probation is for 36 months. He already spent a night in jail after the arrest which he received credit for that during his plea agreement. Brown is currently on tour with the original members of the group New Edition so he didn’t have to be in the courtroom.
