Early Monday morning (3a.m.), Sharon Renee Higgins, a 20-year old UC Riverside student and Otis Lee Hall, a 20-year old Upland, CA resident, had no clue their blossoming futures would tragically come to an end. After pulling over to the side of the 60-Fwy, Higgins and Hall were crushed as a big rig drifted over the freeway railing.

ABC7 News reported that investigators have been reasoning on what could have occurred in this brutal event. Speculations have been that one victim could have run out of fuel and the other came to the rescue with a supply, as a gas can found at the scene.

Highway patrol SGT. Keith Phillips stated, “As a result of that collision, one party that was standing outside was thrown over onto Garey Avenue. The second party remained on the freeway and succumbed to their injuries.”

Reports reveal that there were no signs of foul play or intoxication on the part of the rig truck driver, 47-year-old Martin Llmams.  Llmams suffered minor injuries and was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital for observation. The investigation is continuing into why he allowed the truck to drift onto the right shoulder.
