The only time new taxes are placed on its residents, in my opinion, is when the city is drowning in their own debts. How do you fix a debt problem? Well, the city can place taxes on heinous things like taxing bloggers!

Whether or not a blog makes profits the state of Philadelphia is still demanding bloggers to pay $300 for a business license.

Andrea Mannino of the Philadelphia Department of Revenue told the City Paper that by choosing the option to make money from ads — regardless of how much or little money is actually generated — qualifies a blog as a business.

Although there are some famous bloggers i.e., Sandra Rose and Perez Hilton who go on to make profit from placing ads on their site, many “bloggers” utilize their platform to express their love of music. Or maybe they are huge Lakers fans!  It’s ridiculous!

Blogging is a way of life and it has become a new found hobby over the last few years.

As individuals we strive on ways to express ourselves and enjoy life; each of us sharing or participating in hobbies that we find enticing! Some of us enjoy playing basketball, football, skydiving and rock climbing.

If residents are being taxed on “blogging” what’s next? Should the residents of Philadelphia as well as many other states be on alert of being taxed on other hobbies?
