T.I. Gives His Reason for Leaving Columbia Records

T.I. 2

T.I. had a long and successful partnership with Atlantic Records throughout the years. Once he left Atlantic he found a home with Columbia Records, and hopefully a new business relationship could come about. Well his last project , the EP Da’ Nic, was released independently through Grand Hustle after parting ways with Columbia a couple of months back. After just one album release, Paperwork, T.I. talked to the Associated Press, there is now a clearer reason why T.I. has left the major label:

We did the first project and we both made money. We didn’t shock the world or blow the roof off of what we intended to do. But I think that I walked away with a positive enough experience to say I’m good. I really don’t have a problem with them. They were good partners. We shared that moment. … I don’t think it was impressive enough of a project or a rollout or relationship that either one of us needed to stay longer and invest more.

T.I. is not the only person not impressed or overall satisfied about how is last album was compiled. Long time friend and collaborator DJ Toomp said this about the album, “There have been a few Pharrell and Tip collabs that I could dig, but on some of these joints I was like, ‘They’re cool, but I don’t think they’re ready for this. There were a lot of songs on that album that I felt weren’t ‘2015.”
