Daryl Hawks
NBC 5 Chicago sportscaster Daryl Hawks was found dead in his hotel room this morning (May 12) in Atlanta. Hawks had been covering the NBA playoff games between the Chicago Bulls and the Atlanta Hawks.
Questions were raised after he did not appear for the Bulls’ morning shoot-around. His body was discovered around 9:30 by hotel staff and paramedics were called. He was taken to a local hospital at about 10:30 a.m. according to Atlanta police Sgt. Curtis Davenport.
Hawks, 38, was pronounced dead at 11:48 a.m. at Emory University Medical Center. There were no apparent criminal implications in the death, so police weren’t investigating.
“There’s no reason to suspect foul play,” Davenport said.
Hawks joined the station in 2008. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
