Kanye West paid his respects to the late “Godfather of Rap” Gil Scott-Heron by performing at his memorial service. Yeezy gave a rendition of his track “Lost in the World,” which samples Scott-Heron’s fiery vocals from his track “Who Will Survive in America?”
According to NYDN, the Chicago, Illinois rapper dressed in black and wore sunglasses during the memorial, which took place at Riverside Church in Harlem, New York. After the ceremony, he was spotted hugging Scott-Heron’s family members.
Additionally, Scott-Heron’s daughter Gia performed Bette Midler’s “The Rose” and read an original poem. His first wife Brenda Sykes spoke during the service and the Gil Scott-Heron Band played his track “Better Days Ahead.”
