In celebration of the 2011 BET Awards, Melyssa Ford will host a cocktail reception honoring Hip Hop pioneer Monie Love, and celebrity journalist Cynthia Horner. “The House That Hip-Hop Built: Distinctive Diva Edition,” presented by Keisha Zackery, CEO/Founder of TheHipHopDiva.com will take place June 24, 2011 at the Trina Turk Boutique in Los Angeles, California.

By partnering with Shoe Revolt, an organization fighting to end sex trafficking, the event will also be utilized as a platform to raise awareness and funds for this issue.

The event will honor the women for their roles in Hip-Hop culture throughout the years, as they have both respectfully earned the title “Distinctive Diva”. As a hip hop pioneer, Monie Love’s career includes two albums, hosting MTV’s Lip Service, and two feature films. She currently hosts “Ladies First Radio with Monie Love” on XM Satellite Radio.  As for Cynthia Horner, she is a well-known celebrity journalist, former Editorial Director at Right On! Magazine and now Editor-At-Large for Hip Hop Weekly.

Most importantly for the night, “The House That Hip Hop Built” Shoe Revolt sells donated new (or gently) worn shoes via their website with 100% profits given to anti-trafficking initiatives to eliminate sex trafficking for good.  Attendees are asked to bring a pair of shoes to donate.

“I am proud and honored to have been requested to be the ambassador and host of “The House that Hip Hop Built,” not only because the honorees are women whom I personally admire, but because this event will raise awareness for an unspeakable injustice happening in your own backyard – Sex Trafficking,” Melyssa Ford explains.

“The House That Hip Hop Built: Distinctive Diva Edition” was created to recognize the contributions of women in Hip Hop.

“Hip Hop is a culture that, like most, couldn’t survive without women.  The events we create all over the country serve as a reminder and celebration of the women who are blazing a trail and leaving a legacy,” Zackery explains.
