Yvette Marie Torres
A 15-year-old Yvette Marie Torres of the Bronx, NY had gone to a party on Saturday (June 11) night not expecting the events that would follow. She was hospitalized in critical condition yesterday (June 12) after she challenged gunmen who had fired into the air.
According to NY Daily News, a dispute had broken out at the party and flowed over onto the street. Two young men then began letting off shots into the air.
Her family explains how Torres quickly spoke her mind “My sister argued with them, saying: ‘Why [are] you shooting?’,”said her brother, Jonathan Dimentel, 20.”She didn’t know this kid. She turned around and he shot her in the back of the head,” he said. “It was a sucker move.”
Torres was then rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital by ambulance where she was placed in critical condition and later transferred to a pediatric intensive care unit at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia.
Doctors had told the family they have to wait for swelling near her wound to go down before they can operate. “There’s a high risk of her passing away,” Dimentel said.
No arrest has been made yet on the shooting.
