A young Atlanta girl died yesterday afternoon (June 20) after the staff at Marlo’s Magnificent Early Learning Center left her in the van outside for almost two hours after returning from a group field trip.

2-year-old Jazmin Green was discovered at about 3:30pm by Quantabia Shantell Hopkins, daughter of the daycare owner Marlo Maria Fallings, once she realized that she [Jazmin] was not in the center.

According to police reports, the group had returned from Chuck-E-Cheese in Fayetteville, GA around 1:30pm. While the other children were escorted into the facility, Green was accidentally left in the van, still strapped in her car seat, in temperatures reaching the mid-90s.

Upon being discovered, Green was taken to Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, GA where she was pronounced dead.

April McAlister, Jazmin’s mother said she was happy about the arrests, but angry about the senseless death of her child. “I’m still in shock that they could be so irresponsible with my child’s life,” McAlister said.

McAlister’s older son had attended the daycare for four years and her daughter for two years without any incidents.

Fallings, 41, Hopkins, 23, and a third individual who was a juvenile were all arrested today on charges of cruelty to children, involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct.
