The First Annual Atlantic City Summerfest will take place at Atlantic City, New Jersey’s Sandcastle Stadium on July 2, 2011. The concert, which will be the first hip hop event of its magnitude held in Atlantic City, has brought “tremendous excitement,” according to one of the event promoters, Kareen Harris.

“A lot of shows come to Atlantic City, but not hip hop,” says the Atlantic City native.

“So having artists like Rick Ross, Meek Millz, Beanie Sigel, Jim Jones, State Property, and Juelz Santana perform at the event [means a lot] to the city…We also have local artists performing.”

With headliners such as Ricky “Rozay” Ross and Meek Millz–two of the “hottest artists in the industry,” Philly-based, Beanie Sigel and B-Stacks, the success of the event is pretty much guaranteed. But Harris predicts that other factors may help.

“Atlantic City is a popular destination for the 4th of July,” says Harris. “Jamie Foxx’s Celebrity Weekend is also that weekend. I’ve gotten a lot of calls about celebrities [who will be in town for Jamie Foxx’s weekend] that want to attend Summerfest.”

When asked whether the audience can expect any surprise performances/artist appearances, Harris quickly responded that it was a strong possibility.

“[The combination of artists] that we invited to perform makes this event special…We wanted to bring artists that the area is interested in. People are also excited to see the State Property Reunion. They want to see the dynamic of them getting back together,” said the obviously passionate hip hop head.

In fact, the buzz surrounding Summerfest has gotten so strong, that even the reality t.v. world has come calling. Event organizers are in the process of negotiating with VH1, which has expressed interest in taking footage at the event to use in next season’s “Love & Hip Hop.”

A portion of the event’s proceeds will be going to the Lupus Foundation, as well as the Kevin Wilkins Foundation, which is named for Harris’ long time friend, and slain Atlantic City Police Officer, Kevin Wilkins.
