The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest” screening in Los Angeles.
Many of the true disciples of hip-hop understand the influence of rap group A Tribe Called Quest during the early 90s. Case in point, director Michael Rapaport brings to the screen his dire affection for the genre in “Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest” presented at the 2011 Los Angeles Film Festival. Actress Taraji P. Henson who is most notable recognized for her role in the cult classic film Baby Boy arrived notably tribal chic in an off shouldered floral print top over stark white pants.

An emotional yet energetic performance from A Tribe Called Quest.
The event was very well attended by loyal fans of both hip hop and a Tribe Called Quest supporters. Other notable attendees included rappers Jarobi White and Phife Dawg. Actress Joy Bryant was spotted sharing a gleeful moment with actor turned film director Michael Rapaport. As you may already know, Rapaport once shared the screen with legendary rappers Busta Rhymes and Icd Cube in the 1995 hit “Higher Learning” which was directed by John Singleton who was also there to show his support. Also, from the “Higher Learning” alumni, Actress Regina King was spotted sharing a warm embrace with Rapaport. Guests were then treated to a live performance from the group and music by legendary DJ Anthony Valadez. Although the group officially disbanded in 1998, it was nice to see the same love and admiration they once had for their craft back when they were popular. Overall, the atmosphere had all the makings of talented rap performance by actually talented performers; qualities that seem to be lacking in the current state of Hip Hop stars. The film so far has gotten
rave reviews by critics alike and is expected to be released into theaters July 8th.
