The one time reality star and former governor Rod Blagojevich just received a dose of lets just say “Reality” as an Illinois federal jury returned a guilty verdict against one of President Obama’s close political allies. He gave the best fight that he could however a jury didn’t buy his defense’s claim of his innocence.
After two years and two trials he could spend a decade behind bars. Blagojevich, 54, faced 20 counts ranging from conspiracy to soliciting a bribe to wire fraud.
The jury found him not guilty of soliciting bribes dealing with allegations that he squeezed a toll way executive for campaign cash. They deadlocked on two other counts and could not reach a verdict. Jurors said they found him to be personable but they ultimately didn’t believe him.
“Patti and I obviously are very disappointed in the outcome. I, frankly, am stunned,” Blagojevich said to news media after hearing the jury’s verdict. “There’s not much left to say, gotta sort things out.”
A status hearing for sentencing is set for this August. He is eligible for 300 years but most experts see him getting less than 12 years.
