TLC member and former wife of rapper Mack 10 Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, is using her celebrity status wisely to bring awareness to an issue very near to her— bone marrow donations.
T-Boz recently released a PSA in light of African-American Bone Marrow Awareness month to shed some light on bone marrow donation organizations like Be the Match.
“Champions rise up, champions overcome,” she says. “We need more champions in the African-American community, people to step up and donate marrow. It’s the key to taking on diseases like leukemia and sickle-cell anemia.”
Being a sufferer of sickle-cell anemia, which is an illness predominant in the African-American community that stems from the development of irregularly shaped red blood cells produced by bone marrow, this issue is very important to Watkins.
She is also a spokesperson for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America.
