Juan Ramirez Tijerina, a Chetumal, Mexico inmate is currently serving a 20-year sentence for illegal weapons possession from a 2007 conviction. During a recent conjugal visit with his wife, the two decided they couldn’t take it anymore.
19-year-old Maria del Mar Arjona was taken into custody and now faces prison time of her own for assisting her husband, Tijerina in attempting to escape from prison.
She hid him in a suitcase and planned on wheeling him right out of the front door.
According to police, Arjona looked nervous as she struggled to pull the suitcase, which was obviously unusually heavy. Officers then stopped her and opened the case and found Tijerina curled up in the fetal position.
Arjona now faces prison time for her role in the attempted escape, authorities said. Guess they can be together after all!
