Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. was in Atlanta, Georgia this past weekend, helping Gucci Mane celebrate his very recent release from the Fulton County Jail system. On Sunday, Mayweather partied at the infamous Velvet Room alongside Gucci, Lil’ Kim, and the rest of the urban Atlanta Glitterati that typically comes out for Alex Gidewon’s (of AG Entertainment) parties.
But this party got a little “hotter” than usual. According to TMZ.com,
A recession-proof Floyd Mayweather Jr. literally has money to burn — and proved it by setting a $100 bill on FIRE inside an Atlanta nightclub this weekend.
Floyd was partying with Lil Kim and Gucci Mane at the Velvet Room during the conflagration Sunday night — and we’re told, there were plenty more bills where that came from … Floyd was rolling with STACKS of hundreds.
We should mention: it’s illegal to burn money … so if the Feds decide to pursue an investigation, Floyd could face up to six months behind bars, and, ironically, a $100 fine.
Fighting inflation, one bill at a time.
Now, we here at Hip Hop Enquirer are big fans of Floyd Mayweather–and, quite frankly, ballin. HOWEVER, when I saw the photographs posted on TMZ.com, I was deeply disturbed. I mean, I understand and respect the notion of ballin–as well as all that ballin entails. Nonetheless, at this very sad and unstable time in our country, where people are losing jobs and homes at a rate faster than Floyd can throw his infamous punches, such an act is nothing short of offensive. I know that I, for one, upon first glance at the pictures thought, “Damn…I could’ve used that hundred.”
But this is not about Floyd. No, this goes far beyond a crazy night at the Velvet Room with Gucci. This act is just one of many, in a long pattern of behavior, that we’ve seen demonstrated by certain celebrities who have decided that they are “larger than life,” and want to show us all. By the most flagrant, ignorant acts possible.
But, here’s a little piece of advice for all of you actual and budding celebs. Trying too hard is always wack. And unlike most things in life, this applies to both “lay people” and celebrities.
Now, if you wanna THROW money, that’s dope. Especially if I’m there.
