Foxy Brown at BET’s Rip the Runway 2011
With all of her legal issues finally behind her, Brooklyn raptress Foxy Brown is preparing for a new album and a memoir about fame. In a recent interview with the NY Post, the 31-year-old born Inga Marchand discusses how she got started in the rap game, her previous legal issues, and future plans.
“Of course I want to release another album,” she explained. “It’s not that I’ve been twiddling my thumbs. I’ve had major setbacks.”
By setbacks she’s most likely referring to her many run-ins with the authorities. Since the late 90’s Brown has been in and out of trouble with the law. From missing her court appearance after being accused of spitting on hotel workers who failed to deliver an iron she requested in 1997 and crashing her Land Rover while driving without a license in Brooklyn in 2000 to allegedly punching a policewoman she thought was trying to detain her in Jamaica in 2002 and allegedly assaulting two manicurists, she’s no stranger to law enforcement.
Foxy has apparently turned over a new leaf and is ready for a comeback.
“The Foxy character and Inga Marchand are two different people,” she says. “My fiancé calls me Inga. No one around me calls me Foxy. I go to church every Sunday. I go to Bible study every Friday night. I’m saved.”
“I live a different life,” she says. “I’m not at every party; I’m not seen everywhere. That’s why people still care about my brand. I’ve never whored myself out.”
Apart from working on an album she plans releasing this year, she’s also thinking about becoming a spokesperson for the National Deaf Association after partially losing her hearing to sensorineural hearing loss as well as possibly accepting an offer from Hugh Hefner of $2 million to pose on the cover of Playboy magazine.
The memoir will be called A Gift and a Curse.
