Earlier this week rumors began swirling that BET’s “The Monique Show” had been officially cancelled but according to reps over at BET the show “will be on a production hiatus beginning in the fall”. So what does this actually mean?

The show lasted two seasons and was taped at Turner Studios in Atlanta, GA which are now being used for BET’s show “Reed Between the Lines”. So a “production hiatus” could possibly mean “The Monique Show” is just on hold until the production space becomes available again.

The show only had a five percent drop in ratings from April 2010 to 2011 and was a door opener for many people in various industries.

“We did some good work,” said Rodney Perry, the show’s co-host. “And I think the show is significant. There hasn’t been an outlet for people of color late night since Arsenio.”

He also told the AJC’s Rodney Ho that he [Perry] was told the status of the show was an “indefinite hiatus”. But according to a spokesperson for BET, “Mo’Nique Hicks and The Mo’Nique Show are important to the BET Networks family and we look forward to continuing our relationship with her,” so cancelled for good? I don’t think so. We’ll just have to wait this one out and see what happens.
