A New Jersey Dunkin Donuts employee decided to make the most out of her overnight shifts and get some extra cash on the side. Melissa Redmond of Mine Hill is facing prostitution charges after taking breaks at work from selling donuts and coffee to selling herself to customers.
The 29-year-old had been under an investigation for six weeks called “extra sugar” when Detective Sgt. Kyle Schwarzmann got an anonymous tip about Redmond’s late night activities.
Schwarzmann began gathering information and doing surveillance at the Dunkin Donuts located on Route 46. He found that on numerous occasions Redmond would go out to cars and spend 10 to 15 minutes there. Sometimes they would stay in the parking lot and other times they would drive to a nearby location.
“Sometimes I’d even see money changing hands,’’ Schwarzmann said.
An undercover operation was created with Officer Scott Haigh acting as the undercover “John.” After running the operation, Redmond was arrested for soliciting sex from an undercover police officer.
No one at the Dunkin Donuts wanted to comment.
