A slew of indie, underground and up & coming hip hop celebs hit up the Converse and MTV2 “Band of Ballers” Preview Party at The Westway in NYC. Among some of the unknowns were more recognizable celebs such as MTV’s very own Sway Calloway, Young Money protege Lil Twist, and new kid on the block from across the pond Theophilus London.

Given the fact that many of these people haven’t come across a major record label check, dont expect to see any Gucci, Givenchy or any other designer labels when you view the rest of the pics. Not to mention designer labels usually go against some of these artists’ “I’m so different and anti-mainstream” aesthetic which works in their favor. But what they lack in designer goods they make up for in higher than normal levels of swag. It takes a lot of confidence to pull off the “casual cool at a discount price” look.

We’d like to take this time to pay special attention to Mr. Dukes for his courageous efforts in style. Not many can pull off tartan plaid cargo shorts and get away with it. But here he seems to have pulled it off well with Oxford white button up and red chuck taylors to match.
