R.I.P. Aaliyah (January 16, 1979 – August 25, 2001)
On August, 25, 2001 the world lost one of its brightets stars in entertainment. Before Ciara 2-stepped, before Rihanna had us under her umbrella, there was Aaliyah Dana Houghton. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Detroit the R&B singer, model and actress captured our hearts and attention with her still legendary smash first single “One in a Million”.
Aaliyah never had to diss anyone to sell records, never had to leak a nude pic or sex tape, and never resorted to cheap over-the-top gimmicks to win over fans. She let her God given talent speak for itself and triumph over all others; a lesson that today’s R&B and Pop vixens should learn to take a page from. Had it not been for that fateful plane crash that ended her life after shooting the video for “Rock the Boat” in the Bahamas, we’d still have our Earth angel amongst us today.
And of course, what kind of fashion editor would I be if I didn’t recognize the trend setting, style maven that she was? Most famously known for adding a little feminine flair and sex appeal to the tomboy look and then later emerging herself as a full fledged Hollywood starlet, we take a look at Aailyah’s personal style and natural beauty.
