Amnesty International has claimed today, September 16th, a “Global Day of Solidarity for Troy Davis”. Davis’ execution date has been scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 21st. You can join the Rev. Al Sharpton, Larry Cox, Executive Director of Amnesty Intl., Ben Jealous, President & CEO of the NAACP, Raphael Warnock, Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Martina Correia, sister of Troy Davis, and death row exonorees, for a march and rally/prayer vigil to stop the execution of Troy Davis and move for clemency. Read more about Troy Davis’ story inside.

The march will begin at Woodruff Park at 6 p.m. and end at Ebenezer Baptist Church.  The 7 p.m. rally/prayer vigil will feature a performance by the Indigo Girls and several local choirs, and include heartfelt pleas from the family of Troy Davis and a number of death row exonorees.

Troy Davis was convicted of murdering a Georgia police officer in 1991.  Nearly two decades later he remains on death row even though, according to Amnesty Intl., the case against him, which consisted entirely of inconsistent eye witness testimony, has fallen apart. Many of these witnesses have stated in sworn affidavits that they were pressured or coerced by police into testifying or signing statements against Davis.

Though there are some who applaud the killing of inmates, even potentially innocent ones, we are hoping that sanity prevails and an innocent man is allowed to retain, and regain his life.
