    Sporty Spice
For me, the week began with fashion’s rising star Alexander Wang and his high octane, adrenaline fueled presentation with notes of BMX bike riders. Some of the looks included brilliant uses of mesh material and sci-fi/techno-chic fabrics, while others displayed clever takes on parka jackets turned into evening dresses with drawstring details. Wang himself was cited backstage after the show as visiting old sneaker shops scavenging for fabrics. One leather dress in particular worn by the beautiful Liya Kebede, was cut to expert precision by use of laser techniques.

    Sak Pase!
International music man Wyclef Jean may not be the official goodwill ambassador for his home land Haiti, but he certainly does wave the flag high. He was spotted this week front row at the Donna Karan show to show his support for her tribal themed collection which drew references from his native country. Karan specifically referenced tribal artwork by composing daytime and evening looks inspired by Haitian craftsmanship and designs.

    Coming to America
Meanwhile in a different tribe, celebrated designer Michael Kors looked to the dark continent for inspiration for his spring 2012 collection. The show which was aptly titled “Afriluxe” featured looks from the chicest safari that we’ve never been on but wouldn’t mind braving the adventure. Imagine taking a journey to some of the most beautiful landscapes on the African continent, packing them all with you and taking them home with you? That’s what Kors imagined when he presented a rich, energetic color pallette of utilitarian clothing, for both day and evening.
