With a new election approaching in 2012, President Obama recently announced that his campaign pledge to bring American troops home from Iraq will finally happen at the end of the year. This has to be good news for the proud men and women who have served our country but it will also be great news to their families as the war has gone on for well over 9 years and has cost our country trillions of dollars.
If anyone ever doubted that President Obama didn’t have much experience in foreign policies during his previous campaign bid for the White House, he has surely put those concerns to rest with the death of Osama Bin Laden and America’s Nato affiliation which ultimately resulted in the demise of General Moammar Gadhafi. The question is will this be enough for Americans to give President Obama a second term in the White House? Some will argue that because of the high unemployment rate in this country and the fact that a massive amount of resources were used to help fix the problems of other countries will be President Obama’s litmus test to get re-elected.
While the administration didn’t take credit in the killing of Gadhafi, the President did have this to say to the people of Libya, “Across the Arab world, citizens have stood up to claim their rights, youth are delivering a powerful rebuke to dictatorship, and those leaders who try to deny human dignity will not succeed.”
