With a move we can appreciate, Michael Eric Dyson, author/professor at Georgetown University  has started teaching a full course based off of none other than Sean Carter aka Jay Z’s work. The course titled Sociology of Hip Hop: Jay Z, is a three-credit class that explores Jay Z’s music, career and his social and cultural influence.

“..it’s important for young people to see that the rhetorical invention of African American culture needs to be taken seriously with one of its greatest artist.” Dyson told MTV’s Rap Fix. The Hip Hop students won’t be just sitting in class listening to classics such as The Blueprint and Reasonable Doubt, but will also be covering material including Jay Z’s Decoded, Zack O’Malley Greenburg’s Empire State of Mind and Adam Bradley’s Book of Rhymes. The course only has room for 30-40 students but over 140 students wanted to be a part of the Hip Hop classroom.
