Look’s like we’ll be hearing that familiar adlib, “Shawty Redd on the track” a lot more again, because Atlanta based producer, Shawty Redd has been cleared of the murder charges he’s been facing for almost two years. Shawty Redd, whose real name is Demetrius Stewart was accused of shooting and killing a man at his Hampton, GA home on New Year’s Day 2010. Police were called by Shawty Redd to his home on January 1, 2010 after he and Damon Martin, the victim, got into a verbal and physical altercation which eventually resulted in the producer shooting and killing Martin. Shawty Redd’s bench trial began this past Monday with only a judge, and no jury. Judge Wade Crumbly cleared Shawty Redd of all charges related to the murder case. Hip Hop Enquirer were the first to break the story of his arrest and while we knew particular facts to the case that proved his innocence, it was up to the justice system to fully exonerate him of these charges. Martin was already a fugitive from justice at the time of the killing and our sources told us that he had started a verbal altercation with the super producer earlier in the evening at a local strip club which resumed when they got back to the Stewart’s home.

Shawty Redd’s attorney Ashutosh Joshi told MTV News that Redd’s actions were self defense.  “The defense [in the trial] was clearly self-defense. We argued that Redd’s life was threatened both verbally and physically, and this occurred in his home and that he shot this gentleman as a result of that” said Joshi.

Shawty Redd has produced tracks such as Young Jeezy’s “Who Dat”, Snoop Dogg’s “Sexual Eruption” and Pusha T’s “Amen”, to name a few.
