A Twitter conversation between music journalist, Elliott Wilson and Def Jam’s Shawn Pecas revealed that Asher Roth has signed to Def Jam. Although he is still working under the Universal tent, the question arises – how will the legenadary hip hop label affect Asher’s mainstream output? With the rise of Yelaowlf and Mac Miller, it seems that Def Jam wanted their slice of the wonder bread as well. Asher is known as perhaps the most lyrical white rapper opposite Eminem but lacks the appeal that most fans want (tattoos, black boy/white boy image etc..). His last hit “I Love College” was a world wide smash but turned him into somewhat of a one hit wonder. The Pennsylvanian emcee will also release a new album in 2012 whereas his Pabst and Jazz project will hit iTunes on December 21. Lets see what happens from here.
