The H-Town rap scene has been somewhat dry since its run in the middle of last decade. The new generation owes homage to the likes of Paul Wall, Chamillionaire, and Bun-B; all of whom are on Le$’s latest mixtape, Settle For Le$ 2. The Houston new comer is under the Boss Hawgs Outlaw imprint ran by Slim Thug who is also featured on the mixtape.
Le$’s rhyme style is slow, clear, and drowning like the majority of Texas rappers. Although his flow and lyrics are not anything to brag about, his delivery and production choice makes Settle for Le$ 2 hard to hate. Old school samples from the likes of the Isley Brothers and Maze sound soulful and mature accompanied by organs and hi hats. Produced by Mr. Rogers and Taylor Gang’s go to guy Cardo, the sound is a mix between Wiz Khalifa and Big K.R.I.T. Le$ has room to grow as an artist but, like the majority of rappers currently hot in the streets, if he keeps linking with the right producers his mature style will appeal to those outside of the lone star state.
