Donna Summer, aka The Queen of Disco, is dead at 63 from lung cancer. Summer, a five-time Grammy Award winner, became an enduring icon of the Disco era with hits like “Bad Girls”, “Love To Love You Baby” and “Last Dance”.  She was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Chart.

Born outside of Boston, Summer left home at age 18 to audition for the Broadway production of  “Hair”, receiving a role when it moved to Germany.  There, she met producer Giorgio Moroder, who would launch her solo career.

Summer’s last album, “Crayons”, was released in 2008 and she was reportedly working on another disco album.

She is survived by her husband Bruce Sudano, three children and four grandchildren.

Thank you Ms. Summer for your musical legacy and all the great memories.  There is not a 70’s or 80’s roller skater or club dancer who will ever forget you.

    Rest in Peace.
