Jay Jenkins better known by his stage name Young Jeezy is making major industry business moves. Sources confirm the Snowman is preparing to take office as the new Senior Vice President of A&R at Atlantic Records.
“From the streets to the Boardroom. SVP of A&R at Atlantic Records I am. Let’s Get it!” he tweeted. “Corporate thuggin to the max!”
Other artists who made similar artist-to-corporate moves by signing on with a label are of course Jay-Z, Jim Jones, Jermaine Dupri and Ne-Yo. Within his new position at Atlantic Records, the snowman will work to develop talent, sign artists and oversee the label’s roster. Atlantic Records’ roster includes T.I., Wiz Khalifa, Diggy Simmons and Lupe Fiasco.
This isn’t the first corporate business move he’s made. Jenkins or Jeezy (you choose) also co-owns Def Jam imprint Corporate Thugz Entertainment (CTE), which features rappers such as Freddie Gibbs, Tone Trump, Slick Pulla, Boo Rossini and his group USDA. This leaves us to wonder, how will the corporate-rapper’s move to Atlantic Records affect his business ties with Def Jam Records?
