Louisiana-Native, rapper Webster Gradney, Jr. (widely known by the mononym Webbie) has been arrested for battery and robbery after allegedly pushing a woman down a flight of stairs and stealing $340 dollars from her purse. According to TMZ, a police report filed in Baton Rouge, LA, Webbie is accused of attacking a woman inside a Chase Suite Hotel early this morning after being banned from the premises. According to the report, Webbie was arrested on the scene at approximately 2:30 AM. Webbie was later released on a $9,000 bond and plans to fight the accusations in court.
This isn’t the first time Webbie has been under investigation or in trouble with the law. Earlier this year rapper Webbie argued he had nothing to do with an Alabama nightclub shooting that left one man dead. Aside from that incident, the rapper was also arrested last year in Tennessee when police allegedly found him in possession of two ounces of marijuana. (Source)
A reliable source from Webbie’s side told TMZ, “the rapper met the woman behind the accusations at a party last night — but he never attacked her, or stole her money.” The same source also admits Webbie took money from the woman’s purse — but insists the money belongs to the “Independent” rapper…and the woman in question had stolen it from him.
The irony? One of Webbie’s most successful, chart-topping hits “INDEPENDENT” supports women who “got her own cash!” The music video even depicts a female assuming roles as a president of the United States, earning a degree, becoming a doctor, and winning the Nobel Prize — Women actually going places and achieving high positions not taking flights down stairs. We are sure Bet’s Rosci is smiling right now at these allegations since she too had an unfortunate encounter with the New Orleans rapper during one of her shows.
