New York rapper French Montana doesn’t believe beefs are good for anyones career and he has specifically sent a message to rapper/actor and mogul 50 Cent about his views on the subject matter. French Montana has managed to launch his own career based on his rap skills while shying away from the typical beefs that is seen with artists who are trying to garner more attention around their careers.

With the recent debacle that occurred at the BET Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta, some beefs are perceived as reality for the people that are around artists i.e., entourages. When 50 Cent was beefing publicly with Rick Ross and parading the MMG rapper’s baby mama around the internet, some took his behavior as the extreme in how disrespectful even though Ross didn’t publicly respond to 50 Cent’s antics. When rapper Gunplay stated recently that he wanted to “kill them all” some believed that the beef reached an all time high in hip hop as TMZ.com gave the rapper a platform to vent.
French Montana says beef is bad for business when it comes to 50 Cent, comments on the past beef between Lil Wayne and Pusha T.
“I feel like beef hurt him. I feel like it helped Ross unite people,” Montana explained during an interview with Complex.com. “That’s why Maybach Music is one of the biggest labels. It just makes sense…Of course, Ross is on his fifth album. And like I said, he’s only getting bigger. This is going to be Ross’ first platinum album. He never went platinum. So when 50 came up, 50 sold 10 million. Then after his first album he just kept on going down. You think 50 could come out and sell 10 million now?”
French Montana sort of contradicted himself when speaking on the beef between Lil Wayne and Pusha T when he stated that their beef was “good” for hip hop.
Is there really a good place for beef in hip hop right now? Does the record labels encourage artists to participate in such foolishness? Many artists have managed to have a successful career without introducing beefs into their career because of a better marketing plan and publicity team.
“For some people it’s competition for them. It’s good for hip-hop…Yeah. Pusha T and Lil Wayne’s [beef] ain’t nothing serious,” said the rapper. “If Wayne feels like [it’s real beef] then you know Baby would have got involved. Things like that, it’s good for hip-hop. If nobody got shot, it ain’t beef.”
Although an exact date has yet to be revealed, French Montana still plans on releasing his debut album Excuse My French before the year is up.
