A 2009 Freddie Gibbs behind-the-scenes video has landed a Gary, Indiana patrol officer in serious trouble. Patrolman Jason Johnson has been reprimanded for appearing in the footage. Johnson’s patrol car was reportedly used as a prop in the video, which also features people smoking marijuana and flashing gang signs.
His car privileges have reportedly been suspended and he is required to take an ethics class. Officer Johnson is also set to face a hearing from the police commission.
“When matters like this arise, our approach continues to be proactive. We are policing ourselves as well as the citizens. We will do everything in our power to ensure that any illegal behavior by Gary police officers will not be tolerated,” said Police Chief Wade Ingram.
“This goes beyond ethics. This has to do with character. It is our intent to take aggressive measures to confirm what we already know — that the overwhelming majority of the members of the Gary Police Department are hard working and law abiding,” added Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson.
