In case you haven’t heard of the Mama Luke foundation/movement, hip hop legend, Kangol Kid and Minister Shaunda Lumpkin teamed up to start the foundation which has raised massive amounts of money in support of breast cancer awareness. The Mama Luke Foundation began after Lumpkin’s mother passed from breast cancer in 2010, and the hip hop community united to take a stand against losing anymore mothers, sisters, daughters, aunts and more to the tragic disease.

The duo started the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk back in 2010 and the event has taken off since then. This year, students at Harlem’s Mosiac Preparatory Academy raised hundreds of dollars for the walk, which assisted in “Team Mama Luke” being the third highest-raising team in Newark, New Jersey

In order to celebrate the kids’ accomplishments, the Mama Luke Foundation is hosting a celeb-filled appreciation event at Harlem’s Doug E’s Chicken & Waffles featuring invited guests such as Ice-T, Doug E. Fresh, Roxanne Shante and more. The event will take place on December 18th, but until then check out some of the amazing work the Mama Luke Foundation and supporters have done at www.facebook.com/MamaLukeGFL.
