Hip-Hop Mogul P. Diddy is caught in this photo smoking a cigar. Looks fun doesn’t it? Think again.

America’s number one killer; tobacco. Although it is glamorized in popular culture, smoking is anything but glamorous.  Question: Did you know that nearly one in five deaths are caused by cigarette smoking, over 443,000 people will die from smoking in the US alone? In the Us, tobacco has claimed more lives per year than HIV, motor-vehicle  related deaths, and murders combined.

Picture above shows a dramatized  illustration of
smoking while pregnant.

In men, 90% of all lung cancer cases are caused by smoking, and 80% of cases in women. Smoking during pregnancy can cause preterm delivery, stillbirth, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and low birth weight. Smoking can even cause infertility, or the inability to conceive.

The man in the picture has acute emphysema, resulting in his barrel-shaped chest.
A Healthy Lung vs. A Diseased Lung

It is estimated that 90% of chronic obstructive lung disease cases are caused by smoking. When compared to a nonsmoker, the average nonsmoker will increase there chances of getting coronary heart disease and stroke by two to four times more. In women, chances are increased by 13 times and in men 23 times! There is no such thing as a safe way to use tobacco; whether its a cigar, cigarette, chewing tobacco or a tobacco pipe. So try to keep that in mind when you get the urge to use tobacco products. (Facts and statistics courtesy of the Center for Disease Control).
